From October 7 to 9, 2013, the 12nd session of the AUPF, themed “Leadership in the Transformation of Asia: Opportunities and Challenges”, was held by Universiti Malaysia Perlis of Malaysia. Delegates from 67 universities in 22 countries and regions participated. Universiti Malaysia Perlis (UniMAP) is a Malaysian public institution of higher learning located in Perlis and was established as the 17th Public lnsititution of Higher Learning in Malaysia on 25 July 2001.

The 12nd session was highly regarded by Universiti Malaysia Perlis and all aspects of the forum were taken very good care of. During the opening ceremony, former Prime Minister of Malaysia, Mahathir bin Mohamad, met all delegates and give a speech on the theme of the forum in which he emphasized the vital role education plays in cultivating talents and developing economy. The 12th session is the embodiment of the highly democratic principles set up by the founders in the very beginning with every member having an equal say in everything regarding the forum. During the forum, the host added AUPF anthem into a whole pack of identity cards which are enriched over the years. The anthem was approved by the standing committee and became a symbol of connectedness among all members of AUPF. To crown it all, the Prince and Duchess of Perlis showed up during the closing ceremony.

The 12nd session of AUPF was a high-scale forum with a stronger bond between Asian universities coming into shape. The great support it got from society and government promised a great future for AUPF and all Asian universities.
