During May 1-3, 2002, the President Conference of Sino-Thai Higher Education Institutions was held in Srinakharinwirot University of Thailand. The conference gave presidents from both sides an opportunity to exchange views on how to improve management in HEIs and to discuss the approaches of expanding Sino-Thai cooperation on higher education and scientific research. This conference was the prototype of the Asian University Presidents Forum. During this conference, the participants actively engaged in discussions on the model of future forums, and suggested that, in order to enable frequent exchanges among universities, the forum should be held annually and universities of both countries should take turns to be the host. In order to normalize the agreement reached during the meeting, the draft Constitution of the Sino-Thai Non-governmental Cooperation Conference for Higher Education Institutions was prepared. Besides the draft of the Constitution, the conference covered a wide range of topics on HEI management, talent training; subject research and information exchanges.
